Some singers are known for their catchy lyrics, others for their eccentric style and flashy personas. And while Adele doesn’t fail to please on any of these accounts, she can attribute most of her success to her jaw-droppingly beautiful voice. With an impressive range, her songs fluctuate masterfully between deep-throated musings and airy, high-pitched notes.

Adele has an undoubtedly impressive career — so much so that although she is English, she produced the fastest-selling US album in history. However, every star has their secrets, and these little-known details about the hit songstress are taking fans by surprise.

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on May 5th, 1988 in Tottenham, London. Two years later her father would walk out on the family, leaving the youngster to be raised by her single mother. Looking at her now it’s more than obvious — that was definitely dad’s loss!

The starlet began singing when she was only four years old. Two years later, at the age of six, she stopped reading entirely to focus on music. The last book she recalls reading is Roald Dahl’s Matilda.

Back in England, Adele attended a prestigious art academy, The BRIT School. She was not the only celeb to do so; during her time there she became good friends with current pop star Jessie J.

By now MySpace is a thing of the past, superseded by the likes of YouTube and TikTok. However, Adele actually got her big break after a friend posted her videos on the site and a record company reached out to her directly.

Adele has another unlikely source to thank for jump-starting her career. In 2008 she appeared on an episode of SNL that millions of viewers tuned into — all because they were looking to see then-vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s performance.

A while back, Adele said she loves food, hates exercise, and that her goal in life is to “never be skinny”. Recently however, she has lost a large amount of weight for a rather surprising reason…

The sultry singer used to drink an impressive ten cups of tea per day, and with two sugars in each one. In past years, she has cut down on this habit, attributing her weight loss to this lifestyle shift.

Speaking of tea, Adele found herself in the center of a rather silly controversy after her 2015 music video for Hello depicted her making a cup of the stuff — but putting the water in before the bag. People on the internet were outraged.

Tea isn’t Adele’s only indulgence. She’d get massively drunk on two bottles of wine while writing lyrics for her album 21. She said this was the reason why 21 would always be her best work, but after having a son, she toned the drinking down.

On the subject of Adele’s kid, she’s extremely protective of him. She didn’t even reveal his name for over three months after he was born, and the public was only clued in when she came out wearing a necklace that read “Angelo.”

While she may have cut down on her drinking, she still finds time to let loose. For a while she was drunk Tweeting so frequently that her team had to literally ban her from accessing her account freely.

Other vices have also gotten the singer into some trouble. In 2011, she had to have throat surgery as a result of her smoking, and it wasn’t until four years later in 2015 that she finally was able to kick the habit.

Adele has had to make other pretty extreme lifestyle changes as well. She used to inhabit a huge, 10-bedroom mansion…until she realized she only used one of said bedrooms. She’s since done major downsizing.

Meanwhile, Adele refused to shave her legs for a long period of time, only starting up again when she considered that fans in the front row of her concerts might notice. When asked what her boyfriend thought of it, she replied that he “has no choice.”

While Adele supports the progressive Labor Party, she has made comments in the past lamenting that 50 percent of her income is taken away in taxes. She recieved backlash for these statements, with people pointing out that she is still worth millions.

But although Adele has had gripes with the UK taxation system, this didn’t stop former Prime Minister Gordon Brown from reaching out directly to thank the singer for keeping British morale high during the economic recession.

Still, given that Adele has performed in front of crowds of thousands, she still experiences stage fright, even vomiting or having panic attacks before some of her shows.

In 2008, however, her cancellation of an American tour wasn’t due to performance anxiety, but rather a desire to hang out with her now ex-boyfriend. Understandably, she now says she regrets the choice.

In 2016, while Donald Trump was still a presidential candidate, Adele caught wind of the fact that he’d been playing her songs at his rallies, and promptly had her team tell him in no uncertain terms to step back.

By 2020, Adele actually had more than one son…although her second was a little furrier than Angelo. She is the proud dog mom to an adorable dachshund by the name of Louis Armstrong!

Stars Changes

Though Adele is a solo artist, that doesn’t mean she works alone. She co-wrote a song called “Alive,” which appeared on Sia’s seventh studio album, This is Acting. Adele and Sia worked well together. They weren’t all that different, after all.

The mystery surrounding Sia is the stuff of modern day legends: Who’s behind the wig? To figure out who Sia truly is, you have to dig deep into the singer’s past. The wig, it turns out, is covering decades of emotional turmoil.

The Australian singer struggled for years to make a name for herself in the industry, but her real tragedy occurred years beforehand. Back in 1997, Sia’s boyfriend, Dan Pontifex, died suddenly in a car accident — and the traumatic event changed her life forever.

It was at this time that Sia started to suffer from depression, and soon enough, she became what she called a “pill-popper.” For the next decade, she tried to focus on her music despite her growing dependency on drugs and alcohol.

She was uncomfortable in the spotlight, and as her success grew, so did her disillusionment with fame. In order to cope, she relied on alcohol to get her through shows. On her U.S. tour, she went from Xanax one night to Oxycontin the next…

Even as her name recognition grew, she just couldn’t manage to break into the business in the way she’d hoped. Though two of her albums reached gold status, Sia was haunted by a memory from long ago…

With every possible success she encountered, she remembered the loss of Dan. “I couldn’t really feel anything,” she said of her emotional state in the years following his death. To make matters worse, as her addiction continued, her health only declined.

Her mental health was rocky at best, and to top it all off, she started dealing with extreme bouts of fatigue. At first, she thought she was just feeling the strain of performing, but as time went on, the fatigue got so bad she was forced to cancel concerts entirely.

She realized that what she was feeling — extreme lethargy, muscle weakness, and heart palpitations — was not something a full night’s sleep could fix. A visit to the doctor confirmed the worst: She had Graves’ Disease.

Graves’ Disease is an autoimmune disorder that enlarges the thyroid, causing weakness and unbelievable fatigue. With this diagnosis, Sia faced an unknown future filled with minor successes, a debilitating illness, and a ruthless addiction…

With this in mind, Sia made a dark decision. She drove to a hotel with all the painkillers she could find and started to write a suicide note. But before she could finish writing, her phone rang.

The call from her friend came just in time. “There was a small voice [in me] that wanted to live,” she said, and for the first time, she followed her gut. She hoped that getting clean would change her life for the better…

So, instead of performing, she focused on working as a songwriter. This way, she could put her music out there without having to disguise herself when running errands. But her plan went awry almost as soon as she enacted it.

David Guetta released the song “Titanium,” which Sia performed demo vocals for, without her knowledge. “I was really upset,” she recalled. “I had just retired, I was trying to be a pop songwriter, not an artist,” she explained.

But with the success of “Titanium,” Sia had no choice but to accept being a recognizable face. Everything she’d hated about fame came rushing back: The lack of privacy, the alarming camera flashes from the bushes, the constant fear of paparazzi…

“If anyone besides famous people knew what it was like to be famous…they would never want to be famous,” Sia wrote. She knew something had to change. Fame had almost cost her everything, and she refused to let it control her life again.

“I don’t want to be critiqued about the way that I look on the Internet,” she said. She found fame to be “destabilizing,” and one painful event from her past brushes with fame only made the prospect of becoming famous more intimidating.

“Once, as my friend was telling me they had cancer, someone came up and asked…if they could take a photograph with me,” she recounted. She knew she didn’t want to be famous — but what if the world disagreed?

“I was meditating and I thought, oh, I’ll just be the blonde bob!” she said. She likened her recognizable blonde bob to Amy Winehouse’s iconic bouffant: It would be recognizable without sacrificing her privacy…at least, that’s what she hoped.

She started performing with her signature wig covering her face, and by the time “Chandelier” propelled her to super-stardom, she was one of the music industry’s most talented mysteries. Still, everyone had the same question in the back of their minds.

Would she take off the wig? To clear up any misunderstandings, Sia made a revealing announcement. “I only wear this to maintain a modicum of privacy,” she said. “I don’t wear this if there aren’t cameras around.” Recent events, however, beg to differ.

See, since her rise to pop-star status at the start of the decade, Sia has periodically appeared at events or premieres sans wig, most likely confusing (and delighting!) everyone wondering, “Who’s that woman standing next to Lena Dunham?”

The singer recently appeared without any wigs or hats at the Daily Front Row Awards in L.A. Knowing how difficult this can be for her, we can’t help but admire her bravery — and be thankful she embraced fame at all!

Sia admitted on Howard Stern’s radio show that she’s a big fan of the way Lady Gaga handles herself. She knows she can learn a thing or two from her contemporary, who learned the hard way that fame invades every part of life.

From a very young age it seemed Lady Gaga was destined for stardom. Born Stefani Germanotta in 1986, she grew up in New York City. But, it wasn’t until 2008, at the age of 22, that she appeared on the music industry’s radar.

Her debut album The Fame crushed the charts with songs like “Poker Face” and “Just Dance.” Lady Gaga arrived, and it was clear she was here to stay. And when her next album dropped, she met the first celeb love of her life.

One of the hit singles off her second album Born This Way was “You and I,” and it was during the filming of the music video she fell for an actor named Taylor Kinney. Kinney already had a decent resume under his belt, and Lady Gaga was smitten.

Kinney was a few years older than Gaga. His resume included a recurring role in The Vampire Diaries, and he had some even bigger parts in Zero Dark Thirty and The Other Woman. But, most Kinney fans knew him from one specific hit television show.

Kinney played Lieutenant Kelly Severide in the hugely popular show Chicago Fire, as well as the two spin-off shows it spawned, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med. Gaga must have loved that firefighter’s uniform on him because they began a serious relationship soon after meeting.

In 2015, after four years of dating, Kinney proposed to Gaga with a gorgeous heart-shaped ring the singer proudly displayed on her Instagram page. She captioned it “Love is love is love is.” It seemed like the two were destined for each other.

How could a romance between a successful television star and a superstar singer be anything but amazing? Well, high-profile relationships are fickle beasts, and Gaga learned about it the hard way roughly one year after Kinney proposed.

While filming a Netflix documentary called Five Foot Two, Gaga and Kinney started to hit rough patches in their relationship. Because the issues were happening while the movie was filming, she could discuss it all on camera.

The documentary gave fans an inside look at the intense preparation the singer went through while working on a new album and the demanding behind-the-scenes work of figuring out a Super Bowl halftime show. But, it was really the drama with Kinney that had fans on the edge of their seats.

Lady Gaga calls her fans “Little Monsters,” and fans as dedicated as hers want to make sure their idol’s love life is going strong. Sure, the inside look at all her hard work was fascinating, but love was the most important thing of all.

So, why exactly did they split to begin with? In an interview Gaga gave with CBS Sunday Morning, she implied her exploding career may have been one of the root causes of her love life “imploding.”

When fame suddenly takes you aboard its ride and cranks the lever to a thousand miles per hour, it’s gotta be tough for the partner to keep up. Gaga’s music was growing more popular by the day, but in 2018, she ventured into different territory.

Actor Bradley Cooper directed A Star Is Born, which was a remake of a few versions from the past. Gaga landed herself the role of a struggling singer name Ally Campana-Mained who falls for Bradley Cooper’s character.

The movie was a smash hit and movie critics all hailed Gaga’s performance. She even took home an Oscar for a song she wrote for the film. The movie also had people speculating about whether or not she found a new romantic partner in real life.

The chemistry between her and Bradley Cooper was so realistic, and the two apparently became quite close during filming. People wondered if the two developed actual feelings on set. Fans also wondered how Taylor Kinney felt about the film and the rumors.

Kinney initially told E! News he wasn’t sure if he would even purchase a ticket to the film (not surprising given the rumors involving Bradley Cooper), but after its release, he had nothing but positive things to say about both the film and Lady Gaga’s role.

“I could only wish her the best. I am really proud.” Kinney stated. It’s great to know Kinney’s the kind of guy who still wants the best for people even after they leave his life. Lucky for Lady Gaga, she found love again in the form of a talent agent.

She began dating a man named Christian Carino just before A Star Is Born began filming. This should have squashed anything floating around the rumor mill regarding her and Cooper, but fans were left asking questions again in early 2019.

Days before the 2019 Oscars, Lady Gaga split with Carino, and then she sang an intimate duet with Bradley Cooper at the ceremony. Months later, Cooper split with his partner. Will Cooper and Gaga take the onscreen romance into the real world?
